Level

 For students with tap dance experience.

Building confidence as you improve your movement vocabulary.

Advantages

Superb development of co-ordination. Transforming the dancer in to a percussive instrument. Balance and posture will be challenged as you keep the body weight forwards over the feet. 1 hour’s class can use 250 calories!

History

Controversial origins dating back to 17th century clog dancing in Northern England, African foot stamping and Gaelic Jigs.

 

What to wear

Wear loose clothing which will not restrict your movement. For example fitness clothes or perhaps leggings and T shirt. Tap shoes would be ideal or low heel shoes for a trial.

There are many types of Jazz dance e.g. Street, Lyrical, Commercial. Jazz dancers are usually performing with singers on stage. We concentrate on Show Jazz with an opportunity to learn a routine to performance level. Performances are not compulsory. Suitable for anyone who wants to dance at a general level with the emphasis on enjoyment and musicality.

 Advantages

Fun funky workout for the body through dance. Improves muscle tone, strength and flexibility. Challenges mental function creating spatial awareness, concentration, co-ordination and rhythm.

Class structure

Warm up followed by a dance routine.

What to wear

Level

For beginners  who wish to “have a go” or those who are returning to class  maybe after learning as a child, with progression to more advanced technique in the later class.

 

Advantages

Improves muscle tone, giving long lean muscle, strength and flexibility. Working the whole body, in particular, strengthens the abdominals and improves posture. Builds strength by forcing muscles to work against dancer’s own body weight. Every muscle from the tips of your fingers to stomach, bottom and legs.

Outlet to relieve stress and anxiety in addition to sweating out toxins, increasing energy levels giving a sense of well being and doing something good for yourself.

Class structure

Commence with a warm up, barre exercises, floor barre and centre practice. Technique will be explained but the emphasis is on the joy of movement and musicality. Stretch and relaxation to finish
